Løkka: the neighborhood global travel giants like Lonely Planet or the New York Times love to label as Oslo’s artsy, alternative district. We ourselves remember younger years here, new to the city, when little bars lured us in with danceworthy rhythms, affordable beer, and afterparties in strangers’ apartments.
Løkka is constantly being reshaped by each new season of arrivals, students, and young locals, and we love how the rotation of people, time, and vintage makes the neighborhood both cliché and caramel.
Indulge shamelessly! Start your day with bagels at Bob the Bagel at Vulkan, Japanese-inspired pastries at Hakone, or oatmeal at Grød on an early morning. With a happy and content stomach, you visit Prismatic Pages, Oslo's only bookshop with exclusively English-language books, and a lively meeting place for community-oriented events. There, you immerse yourself in the universe of books before heading to KaffeLykke at Carl Berner for a gorgeous daily lunch. Then choose between theater at Black Box, dance at Dansens Hus, or film and drama at Vega Scene. So many possibilities! Still not tired? End the night with karaoke at SYNG. And when it’s at its darkest, few things beat falafel from Jamals – an unofficial Løkka ritual. All of these places are in Lysløypa, so don’t forget your book!
And we’re not done: kiss someone by the water mirror at Birkelunden, buy flowers at Carousel for your date, or stumble upon one of the many bars tucked into unexpected corners. Like St. Pauli Biergarten, right under a nursing home, where elders with walkers, babies in strollers, and adults mid-life share tables.
