There are so many good Bobs in the world – a sponge and a builder, Dylan and Marley – that you'd almost think we didn’t need another one. But then Bob the Bagel came to town, and hearts everywhere rejoiced, rushing for a bite of the hol(e)y pastry.

Jokes aside: Before writing texts for this book, we ask the owners of the places to share what drives them. Founder Dorian Jominy responded so beautifully that we’ve decided to share part of it word for word:

“Bob the Bagel isn’t just a food project. As a kid, I watched how my friends in the queer community had to fight twice as hard to be safe, seen and free. When I built this place, I made a choice: to center the culture that raised me, and to open the doors wide to everyone who’s ever felt othered. This is for the ones who were never given a seat at the table. So we built our own — and we’re serving bagels on it.”
