St. Hanshaugen
St. Hanshaugen, if you disregard all the uphill climbing, can once again remind us here at the editorial team of grand old cities out there in the world. Agreed?
Cities where people cycle on slightly old bikes, wear coats, and always seem to be on their way somewhere. There are green parks, beautiful apartment buildings, and it feels like a place where people actually live their lives, in a way. And they do, of course. So do we. So do you!
We love this beautiful neighbourhood, and we’ve got a few Lysløypa spots here too! Point yourself towards Adamstuen! There you’ll stop by Disken, the brand-new spot for coffee, panini and a great continental vibe – imagine a proper Italian panini, delicious! Then it’s just around the corner to Oslo Raw in Adamstuen for vegan raw cakes completely free of gluten, dairy and refined sugar. Here it’s genuinely allowed to eat cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner, yes please. These places are in Lysløypa, so don’t forget your book!
St. Hanshaugen also offers coffee at Raades hagekafé, and some pretty cool shops that all start with B: Bislett bok (self-explanatory), Bislett delikatesse (also fairly self-explanatory, but oh, what lovely goods!). Along the "strip" right by "the hill", you’ll find great coffee at Java, the lovely Studio Bazar, the newly opened Ritz, good finds at Gutta på Haugen, a handful of great interior design shops, good wine at Rouleur, plus a cluster of good restaurants scattered nicely around the streets, and then we recommend books from St. Hanshaugen bookshop, which you simply tuck under your arm.
And then there’s the park. The sun rising or setting over Oslo from the top of St. Hansparken instantly fills us with a sweet sense of nostalgia. Enjoy your trip. Time to go out and make the most of the city, with you.
