In a humble takeaway spot in Løkka, Jamal is frying up his legendary falafels. You might have to wait a little, but trust us it’s worth it. You might even get a little snack while you wait – a falafel with a dollop of hummus!
Jamal came to Norway from Syria in 2016 and quickly began missing the taste of authentic Syrian food. The taste of home. “Why not offer it myself?” he thought. After all, he had his grandfather’s recipes and a family history of falafel-making in his back pocket! So when you sink your teeth into one of Jamal’s falafels, you’re not just getting a delicious meal on the go, you’re helping make the world a little better, and taking a bite out of a family story full of love, care, and tradition.
Jamal has donated over 200,000 NOK to Doctors Without Border’s work in Gaza and he’s organized several fundraisers. Not just once, but twice, he donated absolutely everything he sold in his restaurant for an entire day! And now there’s even a book about Jamal’s story (ask for it at the counter)!
