Sagene
Text: Ida Frisch & Christina Skreiberg
Not too long ago, Sagene was a proper no-go zone. Workers’ blocks, long shifts, short lives – that was the rhythm by the river Akerselva. Now, in modern Oslo, Sagene is the place where you cycle around thinking: my god, imagine living here.
Start the day at Mjøl – sourdough bread and pastries that taste like true craft, with great coffee too. Just a stone’s throw away is Pan, perfect for slow breakfasts and little pauses in your everyday life. And you need one today, don’t you? Then move on to Fomoto, the Sannergata café that’s become a little neighborhood anchor – calm, warm, always the right coffee. And to top it all off: a slice of Basque cheesecake at Hernández, an absolute must on your Oslo bucket list. These are the places that make this neighborhood one you’ll return to again and again. All included in Lysløypa, so make sure to bring your book!
Don’t miss Sagene’s other gems: sneak into Sagene Church and play the piano, grill at the public barbecues outside the community house, or wander through the allotment gardens by Kongsvingergata. Stop by Sagene Bokhandel, find a bench, and watch life go by. PS: don’t forget to swim in the river at Nydalen! Just keep that bikini from downtown in your backpack – no stress.
