    Text: Nora K. Sæter

It feels like climbing a mountain, that steep hill winding past the waterfall and Hønselovisa’s house. After leaving the sound of the river behind, catching your breath and letting your eyes rest on the beautiful Sagene public bath, you notice them — the colorful ceiling lamps hanging from the trees. And there it is: the outdoor seating. Fomoto. You’ve stumbled upon a hidden gem of a shop and café.

Owner Kjartan explains the mysterious name over a coffee and a slice of homemade cake: the name is a mix of the names of the three founders. It was originally meant to be a workshop, but together with designer and illustrator Frode (by the way, Kjartan’s partner), they realized this could be the place they had dreamed of — a charming neighborhood café and design shop with upcycled goods, fair trade items, bright colors, and weekend waffles. They also have a lovely shop a few stone throw’s away, at Grünerløkka, so head there for design after you’ve had your coffee!
