Frogner
Text: Ida Frisch & Christina Skreiberg
Frogner. The part of Oslo that perhaps feels most like Vienna, or some other grand European city. It’s green, quiet, wide-streeted, full of history in its walls.
Begin your Lysløypa-day at Mjøl – an absolute winner! Then head towards Skillebekk to Bakerina for freshly baked cookies. Check out all the tips listed below, and round off this dreamy Frogner day at Hummus & Wine, where mezzeh, wine, and oriental beats blend together. These places are in Lysløypa, so don’t forget the book!
The rest comes as a bonus, because we love it here: This is the district of Frognerparken (for every Oslo citizen), and right across the street the hidden gem Vigeland Mausoleum (a true must-see!). Small parks where we imagine well-dressed elderly couples walking their dogs and reminiscing. Vestkanttorvet (yes, the market with a capital V), held once a week – your chance to score beautiful Norwegian porcelain, leather boots, or unsigned art. More recently, Sommerro has opened, where Vestkantbadet (another one with a capital V, but this time a recreational pool) has been reborn in a new guise. Book a table for their epic breakfast spread, pack that eternal bikini once more, and swim in design history – be somewhere between 1920 and 2025, all in one day.
Frogner is for everyone – take it all in, however you arrive: by city bike, tram, or bus. Enjoy!
