This great deal is for you who have the Lysløypa book:
2-for-1 on sauna
Text: Ida Frisch
Imagine it's the year 1900, Sagene Folkebad has just opened, and you're a working woman or working man in Kristiania who gets to use the tub-bath department (!) – where you could come to wash. Or that you're a schoolchild at Sagene skole, in 1926, getting to use the newly built swimming pool.
At last Sagene Folkebad is the people's bath again, thanks to Oslo Badstuforening, who have opened the bath for everyone! After many worn-down years, the beautiful old bath has been renovated in consultation with the Urban Conservation Officer (Byantikvaren). Whether you want to swim or take a sauna (mmmm, sauna – there are two great saunas here with room for 42 people in total), or shock-cool yourself in the cold plunge and bucket shower, try the old-fashioned foot baths, or just enjoy these truly beautiful rooms, you're warmly welcome to a piece of Oslo's history.
The building alone is worth the trip – with authentic 1920s charm and light streaming in through the tall windows. Bring your swimwear, set aside plenty of time, and let your body feel that it actually needs both warmth and cold water now and then. Bathe your way back into the past and straight into the future at Sagene Folkebad, and treat yourself to a good long stay in the sauna, Oslo's secret survival medicine that warms you right down to the soul.
Folk medicine at the folkebad, this is!
