Izakaya (居酒屋) consists of three characters that roughly translate to stay, drink, and place. In this somewhat hidden but cozy basement at St. Hanshaugen, you will find a place where you will indeed want to stay long to enjoy Japanese small dishes and drinks. You may have walked past this intimate gem on St. Olavs street – there's often a line stretching out to the street, and for good reason.

As far as we know, this is the first izakaya in Norway, enriching Oslo with authentic Japanese culinary art since 2012. Here you can enjoy everything from savory spinach pancakes and sesame ice cream to edamame beans and stuffed gyoza. Izakaya is also a verb, and coming here is a perfect activity if you are in a group due to the high sharing factor. This is a golden opportunity to order all 14 dishes on the menu and share them. Also, try a choko, which is a sake shot made from rice!
