30% off food and drink for max two people

    Text: Nora K. Sæter

Sometimes the cherry on top of the cake is instead a poppy seed on top of a lovely, freshly baked bagel. Close your eyes and join our little ritual of indulgence: mouth opens, tongue sticks out, and in comes a thick layer of fresh cream cheese on a bed of crisp bagel, topped with a shimmering smoked salmon strip, crispy capers, and both dill and a bagel lid.

Swedish Emma's bagel bakery is Syverkiosken's neighbour, and is the result of a dream to serve hand-rolled bagels with a focus on local ingredients (the Swedish dream?). You get both savoury and sweet bagels (both vegan and kosher-friendly), plus a few extra delicate toppings (whipped butter, apple butter and organic eggs from free-range hens).

Expect a queue out the door on weekends, but it's worth the wait – and a good excuse to chat with your neighbour in line. Rock-solid Swedish bagel standards meets Norwegian ingredients, and the result is the kind of breakfast you start planning your weekend around.

The stay-home enjoyer can buy bagels without toppings to take home, for an extra good breakfast the next day (or to fool yourself into thinking it's homemade).
