In 1913, when Det Norske Teatret had its opening, Hulda Garborg said: “It is like a dream what has happened tonight, that we have opened a Norwegian theater in the middle of Kristiania, and come out of it alive.” Det Norske Teatret still stands strong, has celebrated its 100th anniversary, and is still the country's largest Nynorsk National Theater.
The theater still sees it as its mission to be a countercultural arena that also aims to highlight that Oslo is a diverse city. In that spirit, we find a number of productions, including the success "Tante Ulrikkes vei," based on Zeshan Shakar's novel, and "Blokk til blokk" by, among others, Jonathan Orellana Castro, Don Martin, and Felipe Orellana Castro.
Take a trip to Det Norske Teatret when you need cultural boost and feel free to take the opportunity to enjoy a great meal in the theater's restaurant!
