In 1913, when Det Norske Teatret had its opening, Hulda Garborg said: "It is like a dream what has happened tonight, that we have opened a Norwegian theater in the middle of Kristiania, and come out of it alive." Det Norske Teatret still stands strong, is more than 100 years old, and is still the country's largest Nynorsk national theater.
The theater still sees it as its mission to be a countercultural arena that also aims to highlight that Oslo is a diverse city. In that spirit, you'll find a range of productions, including the acclaimed "Tante Ulrikkes vei", based on Zeshan Shakar's novel, and "Da vi var yngre", based on Oliver Lovrenski's novel.
Visit when you need a cultural boost – and why not take the opportunity to enjoy a great meal in the theater's restaurant!
